the begin

The football - king of sports, which continues to dominate, here and everywhere, the popularity area of sport fields - was one of the 3 sections of the new founded club "Dinamo" which set forth, in the spring of 1948.

On 14th May of the same year, "Unirea Tricolor MAI" - new entered, in January 1948, under the umbrella of the Internal Affairs Ministry - merges with "Ciocanul Bucuresti" and forms "Dinamo Bucuresti", the sporting club representing the above-mentioned institution.

Until the end of the championship, Dinamo was going to be represented by two teams: "Ciocanul" ("Hammer"), named "Dinamo A" and "Unirea Tricolor MAI", known as "Dinamo B" (this last one relegating, at the end of the football season, into the second Division B). Starting with 1950, Dinamo A was separated with Dinamo B, the last one being transferred first at Brasov, then at Cluj, and eventually - in 1958 - settling at Bacau.
Dinamo A Bucuresti was going to follow its destiny at the highest football level. The "Dinamo" name was used for the very first time at 1st May 1948. Nevertheless, the real debut of Dinamo was on the 1947-1948 championship edition (occupying, at the end, the 7th position). In the team was Ambru, Angelo Niculescu, Teodorescu, Siclovan, Bartha, Farkas, Sarbu. On 14 July 1948, Dinamo has played its first international match versus Zidnice (Czechoslovakia): 4 to 1 for the red-whites. The day of 22 August will remain as a reference date for Dinamo's football, consisting of the debut of Dinamo Bucharest team in the first national Division. The pioneers were, through others, Ozon, Lazarescu, Naciu...The first coach Coloman Braun Bogdan. At the end of the '48-'49 edition, Angelo Niculescu retires from the football playing activity, dedicating himself to the coaching career rewarded later with great victories with Dinamo and with the national team. In 1950, new football players arise at Dinamo: Dumitru Nicolae Nicusor, Bacut I. What it follows is a few years crystallization period and, finally, the dais, in 1951 when Dinamo conquers the second position with Al. Ene I, Suru, Szoko, Calinoiu, C. Marinescu...

FIRST MATCH ON DINAMO STADIUM

On 14 October 1951 was held the inauguration of the modern stadium Dinamo where the white-reds were going to obtain great victories. First match: Dinamo-Locomotiva Timisoara 1-0. In 1952, Dinamo will be rewarded with silver, the same in 1953, but in 1954 the team loose the silver remaining on the third position. In the same year, Dinamo plays (and loose) the Final of the Romania Cup: 0-2 with Metalul Resita. In 1954 new names appear at Dinamo: Birtasu, Blujdea, Bacut II, coached by Stefan Dobay.

FIRST CHAMPIONS TITLE

In 1955, the white-reds receive their first recognition, from a range of 15 titles conquered in 52 years of history. The champion team shines, having professor Angelo as coach; the attack line, formed by Ene I, Neagu, Suru, amazes, while the defense (Bacut I, Bacut II, Szoko, Calinoiu) is the greatest from the championship (only 19 goals received). In the autumn of '56, Dinamo team makes its debut in European Champions Cup (just founded, one years ago), a premiere also for the Romanian football: on 26 August 1956, in front of 80 000 viewers, Dinamo defeats Galatasaray with 3 to 1. Later, at Istanbul, due to a score of 1-2 for Dinamo, we obtain the first qualification. New-entries: Utu and both Anghels - Florian and Vasile - then Popa, Nunweiller III and R. Lazar. In this year, 1956, Dinamo lost the national title, entering into a shadowy corner, until 1959 when succeeds in the second position, with just one point difference from de champions. Nevertheless, Dinamo wins the Cup at the end of the match Dinamo-Minerul Baia Mare 4-0. Novelties: Varga, Szakacs, Feodot, Bukossy, Cosma. And again the failure...
In 1961, Dinamo contrives to obtain the second position, with the contribution of Nunweiller IV, Panait, Ivan, Stoenescu, Ene II, Tarcovnicu, Eftimie, Sasu, Selymes, David (coaches: Traian Ionescu and Nicusor).

WE HAVE DEFEATED INTER MILANO

The second title came in 1962 when in the batch appear Datcu, Stefan, Unguroiu (coaches Nicusor and Nedelescu). In 1963, the third title!       Newcomers at Dinamo: Parcalab, Ghergheli (Tr. Ionescu and Nicusor as coaches). Dinamo wins both the Championship and the Cup; the last one, after a 5-3 victory against Steaua. (new players: Radu Nunweiller, O. Popescu). We play in the Champions Cup against the famous Real Madrid (1-3 at Bucharest) with Di Stefano and Gento on the stadium. At Dinamo came P. Emil, Fratila, Haidu. The autumn of '64 leads us, in CCE, face to face with another celebrity: Internationale (with Facchetti, Picchi, Jair, Mazzolla, Corso, Suarez), 0-6 and 0-1. In '65, another title and other new players at Dinamo: Lucescu and Grozea. In C1 Dinamo plays again against Inter and wins surprisingly with 2 to 1 (unfortunately, loosing at Milano with 0-2).
In the twentieth year of the club existence (1948-1968), our football players conquer the Cup (3-1 against Rapid) with Cornel Dinu, Naghi and Dumitrache in the field, Bazil Marian on the technique bench (all of them arriving at Dinamo in 1966). In the same year came Nutu, Daniel Ene, Vl. Marica. On 13 November 1968, in the Cup Winners`Cup, Dinamo registers a premiere playing against an English team, West Bromwich Albion (1-1 and 0-4), after 2 matches where Boc and Salaceanu were titular for Dinamo. In 1969 we "gain silver" at the end of both the Championship and the Cup. 1969 was the year of the qualification of Romania for the World Championship held in Mexico, in 1970. The national team was "full" of Dinamo's players: Dinu, Boc, Deleanu, Ghergheli, Nunweiller VI, Dumitrache and Lucescu! Title after title!
In 1970, Dinamo occupied just a 5th position... The team is renewed with players as Cheran, Both, Al. Moldovan, Dobrau, G. Sandu (coaches Nicusor and St. Stanculescu). In the autumn of the same year, Dinamo succeeds to eliminate Panathinaikos (5-0 and 0-1) in UEFA Cup but, unfortunately, was going to be defeated by F.C. Liverpool (with 1-1 at home). To the white-reds came Mustatea and Doru Popescu. The sixth title: in 1971 (nevertheless, we loose the Cup: 2-3 against Steaua). Newcomers: Andrei, M. Constantinescu, P. Nicolae, Mot. In CCE, Dinamo eliminates Spartak Trnava, the team of Dobias, Kuna and Adamec. A new player: Florian Dumitrescu. What it follows is "the double" with the Feyenoord of Israel and Van Hanegem: 0-3 and 0-2. After a less appreciated evolution in 1972, a year later, we conquer again the top of the hierarchy, having Nelu Nunweiller and Gh. Timar as coaches. New players: Eftimescu, Batacliu, Custov, Lucuta, Vranceanu, Dudu Georgescu. In CCE, we surpass the North-Irelands from Crusaders Belfast, but we fail with Atletico Madrid (0-2 and 2-2), the team of Capon, Irueta, Heredia and Ayala. The novelty of our team was Satmareanu II. In the next year, Dinamo was going to play in the UEFA Cup and, after the elimination of Bolospur team, failed in the confrontation with F.C. Koln: 1-1 and 2-3! As new player: T. Zamfir.

DINAMO LEADS THE GREAT MILAN ON "SAN SIRO"

The 8th big success was going to come in 1975, year when Dudu Georgescu receives "the golden bot" (for 32 goals). To the white-reds appear Augustin. In CCE we have to play against the great Real (1-4 and 1-0). The newcomers on our team were I. Marin, Mateescu, Custov. In '76, also in the European Cups (C3), we play against another "sacred monster" - AC Milan - with Capello and Collovatti on its side: 0-0 and 1-2 (after 1-0 for us on San Siro stadium). Newcomers: the goalkeeper Stefan and the players Dobrau, Roznai, I. Moldovan. The 1976-1977 first division edition brings us a new and great victory and to Dudu Georgescu a new title of "Europe's best scorer" (47 goals). In the team appear now Ghita and Chitaru. In the autumn of '77, in C1, we succeed a victory against Atletico Madrid (2-1) our new team player being Talnar. In the return at Madrid, the score is 0-2.
In '79, Dinamo occupied the second position on the national championship (newcomers Anutei, Tevi, Dragnea, Musat) with I. Nunweiller and T. Dima as coaches. In the second tour of UEFA Cup (after the elimination of Cyprus's team from Larnaca) Dinamo was eliminated (partially because of the referee) by Eintracht Frankfurt, team of Pezzey, Grabowsky and Holzenbein (2-0 and 0-3 in prolongation). On our team, Multescu, Apostol, Nelu Stanescu had made their entrance.
The '79-'80 edition is a step back (position 5) but not for long, the next edition reassuring our success, Dinamo being now on the second position. New names have appeared at Dinamo in the last seasons: Speriatu, Margineanu, Glont, Badilas, D. Zamfir, Stredie, Bumbescu, Pana. The technical board: V. Stanescu-T.Dima.
In UEFA Cup, the white-reds meet Levski Spartak Sofia, team of Sirakov and Iskreoy (3-0 and 1-2). N.Vlad was one of the newcomers. In the second tour, a terrified "double": Dinamo-Internazzionale (the Italian team having Bergoni, Bagni, Prohaska, Altobelli, Baresi, Oriali, Marini and Becallossi on their side. At Milan, 1-1 (authors: Pasinato and Custov) and in the return, at Bucharest, 3-2 for the "dogs", the qualification being due to Orec, in the prolongation minutes! In the second tour of C3, the Swedish team IFK. Goteborg were going to amaze us (with players as Tommy Holmgren and Cornelliussom): 1-3 and 0-1.

THE 10TH TITLE, AT PRAGUE, DUE TO THE GOAL OF TALNAR

The 10th national title will be obtained in 1982, when Dinamo conquers also the Cup of Romania, after a 3-2 against Baia Mare. Through the white-reds, could be founded now players as Moraru, Vaetus, L. Moldovan; coaches: V. Stanescu and Nicusor. After 5 years of absence, Dinamo reappears in CCE, meeting (and eliminating) Vaaleregen Oslo. In the next stage of C1, Dinamo had to confront a difficult opponent: the team of Vizek and Nehoda-Dukla Praga. We win at home, with 2-0, obtaining the qualification at Prague: 1-2 (Talnar scores in prolongation minutes). In this way we arrive to play against Aston Villa, club of Bremmer, Cowans, White, Shaw and Morley! Results: 0-2 and 2-4. In the autumn of '82, at Dinamo arrives Al. Nicolae. The next year came with the 11th title for Dinamo, in a team formula having Nicusor as first coach and Cornel Dinu as coach and player. The team was completed with Sertov, I. Moldovan, Movila.

THE RETIREMENT OF CORNEL DINU

The summer of 1983 brings new names for Dinamo: Andone, Rednic, Nemteanu and Iamandi. On 27 August 1983, the '83-'84 edition began with a touching event: the retirement from the competition activity, as player, of Cornel Dinu - reliable defender of both Dinamo and the national team. Starting with this year, the exceptional football player, with a record containing 6 national titles, 6 Cups of Romania, 454 presence in First Division A and 75 presence in the National team, will dedicate himself to the coaching career, remaining on the technique bench.

DINAMO -THE FIRST ROMANIAN TEAM IN THE SEMIFINALS OF CCE

The autumn of the above mentioned year was going to represent a valuable step into the international arena. The "CCE campaign" started with the Finland team, Kuusysi Lahti (1-0 and 3-0). The second tour pushes us in front of the Champion "en-titre" of the European clubs, Hamburger SV - team of Stein, Kalz and Magath. At Bucharest, Augustin, Multescu and Orac score for 3-0. The return was extremely passionate and Talnar fulfils the qualification; after that, Multescu sign for another goal (2-3). In order to accede in the semifinals of CCE, Dinamo had to pass over another top team of those years: Dinamo Minsk, with Aleinikov, Zigmanatovici and Gurinovici. The score was 1-1 at Tbilisi (Rednic equalizing in the minute '87!) and 1-0 at Bucharest (author: Augustin). In Dinamo team appears Turcu. After an extraordinary match sustained on "Anfield Park" against FC Liverpool (in the team were the well-known players Souness, Dalglish and Ian Rush; Lee was the author of a goal for Liverpool, in the minute 26, while Augustin has hit the gate, 7 minutes earlier), here comes the return who make us dream to the "big final". But...it wasn't meant to be: Rush scores in the minute 11, followed by Orac who scores for Dinamo in the minute 39, fructifying a free kick. Unfortunately for us and in spite of our reborn hopes concerning the qualification for the finals of CCE, Rush hits again and...1-2. This wonderful spring of 1984 will continue with the winning of both the   third consecutive national title and the Cup, with Nicusor and Cornel Dinu on the technique bench. The "eleven" of Dinamo was a remarkable one, formed by such technical players, that they could play football even with the eyes closed, that's how great they were. It could be mentioned here Moraru-Rednic, Al. Nicolae (Andone), I. Marin, Stanescu-Dragnea, Augustin, Multescu, Custov-Talnar, Orac same as the newcomers V.Radu, G. Moldovan, Nemteanu, Baicea.

PROLONGATION MINUTES WITH BORDEAUX

In the first tour of C1, the autumn of `84 (the year of Romania`s qualification for Euro `84, with a national team counting many players of Dinamo, such as Moraru, Rednic, Andone, Nicolae, Augustin, Custov, Dragnea, Multescu, D. Georgescu, Vaetur), Dinamo meets Omonia Nicosia: 4-1 and 1-2. New players: Tulba and Suciu. Here comes the confrontation with Bordeaux (club of Tigana, Giresse, Lacombe and Battiston), Dinamo being, unfortunately, eliminated after a "double" finished to the limit with 0-1 and 1-1 (in the prolongation minutes, at Bucharest). Loosing, an year later, the national title, Dinamo was going to play in UEFA Cup. Surprisingly, we are eliminated from the first tour, because of the goal of guests from Vardar Skopjie, team of Pancev and Ringov. Dinamo`s coaches: Cernaianu and Fl. Cheran.

A BETTER TEAM THAN BARCELONA

The `85-`86 edition push us down to the 4th position of the national championship, but, on the other side, push us up in the Cup of Romania, Dinamo winning again against Steaua, the inter-clubs champion team of Europe: 1-0 (author Damaschin). The last two years newcomers at Dinamo were: Toma, Ivan, Francu, S. Raducanu, Mihaiescu, Prunea, Topolinschi, D. Sava, Mitici, Jercalau, Raducioiu, Lupescu.
After 18 years of break, the autumn of `86, Dinamo will take again the start for the Cup Winners`Cup, against an unforgettable team: "17 Nentori Tirana" eliminating us with 0-0 and 1-2!! In `87 we regain the second position in the national championship and "just the fame" of playing in the finals of the Cup: 0-1 with Steaua. In the same championship, at Dinamo came Mateut, Camataru and Lupu, in the end of the edition Camataru winning the "golden boot" (44 goals). The autumn finds us through C2, failing from the tour: 0-1 and 0-2 with Mechelen (Malines), team of Koeman, Den Boer, Ohana. In that autumn, Dinamo has received new players: Balaci and Timis.

ATTEMPTS AFTER ATTEMPTS BUT WE SUCCEED TO PLAY IN THE SEMIFINALS OF THE CUP WINNERS`CUP

The 40 years anniversary of Dinamo Club, in 1988, finds the team on the second position, Dinamo loosing also the Romanian Cup, to the "green table", that is to say in the cabinet of the CC (Central Committee) of PCR (Romanian Communist Party, at that time, the single ruling party in Romania), at the end of an extraordinary final: Steaua-Dinamo 1-1. After 1990, Steaua was going to renounce to the Cup in Dinamo`s favor, who actually deserved it. Dinamo played the respective edition with new players in the team: Stelea, M.Stoica, Cr. Sava, Sabou, Vaiscovici. In the Cup Winners`Cup, September `88, we eliminate again the Finland team "Lahti": 3-0...again. It follows the elimination of the Scotland team, Dundee United: 1-0 on their stadium (Mateut is the author of the goal from the 90th minute!) and 1-1 at Bucharest (again Mateut). Nevertheless, we miss the qualification in the semifinals of C2, after 1-1 and 0-0 against the valuable Sampdoria Genova (the goal of Vialli at Bucharest has made all the difference). In the Italian team were Mancini, Vialli, Cerezo, Victor, Pagliuca). In that year, newcomer at Dinamo was (the regretted) Misa Klein. In `89, Dinamo was on the second position, scoring 130 goals, up to the record of UTA from 1947-1948 (128 goals). We have lost also the Cup, playing against our almost traditional finals partner, Steaua: 0-1. Mateut became the "golden boot"owner (with 43 goals). In the team was also Viscreanu, B. Bucur, Sabou, Dochia, A. Matei, Nicoara. Coaches: M. Lucescu and Florin Cheran. For the white-reds, the autumn of `89 began with the arrival of new players, such as Daniel Timofte, Cezar Zamfir and Arpad Meszaros. In the Cup Winners Cup we meet again an Albanian team, this time Dinamo Tirana: 0-1 and 2-0. We go far, playing against the champion team of Greece, Panathinaikos (with Saravakos, Samaras and Vlahos): 2-0 and 6-1! It follows a match with Partizan Belgrad, team of Spasici, Jorovski, Mijatovici and Pantici, eliminating them with 2-1 and 2-0. After six years of break, Dinamo arrives to play into a new continental semifinal (Cup Winners Cup), but, unfortunately, miss the big final, the winner being, this time, Anderlecht Bruxelles: 0-1 and 0-1 (for the Belgians playing Wouters, Andersen, Gudjohsen, De Grzse, Nillis, Oliveira, Grun. At Dinamo appeared Dobos.

EVENT IN `90

In the summer of `90, Dinamo - with Lucescu as coach - conquers a new national title. In the same time, the team wins the final of the Cup, against Steaua: 6-4. After Mexic `70, a competition with many Dinamo players performing into the national team, follows the Italian World Championship from 1990. The Romanian team succeeds the qualification due to the players as Stelea, Rednic, Andone, Klein, Sabau, Lupescu, Lupu, D. Timofte, Mateut, Raducioiu, Camataru, Vaiscovici. Here comes another autumn in CCE: the thirteenth start in C1 begins with the Irish team St. Patrick`s Athletic Dublin, eliminated with 4-0 and 1-1. Newcomers in Dinamo: Eduard, Cheregi, Marcu, Selymesi, C. Pana, M. Pana, Fulga. The second tour obstructs our momentum: 0-0 and 0-4 with FC Porto, team of Baia, Branco, Couto, Madier, Kostadinov. In the internal championship, in `91, Dinamo occupies the third position. Coaches: Fl. Halagian and I. Marin. New players: M. Savu, T. Cristea, Miriuta, Scanteie, Atomulesei.
The `91-`92 UEFA Cup Edition pushes us against Sporting Lisbon (with Figo, Balakov, Cadele, Careca, Iordanov): 0-1 and 2-0. We are revenged! Newcomers: Moga, Mihali, Kadar, Gerstenmajer, D. Munteanu, Demollari. In the next tour, a team from Genoa eliminates us. First was Sampdoria, now, Genoa 1893: 1-3 and 2-2, on their side being Branco, Eranio, Aguilera and Skuhravy.

A TITLE AND NO DEFEAT

In 1992, the fourteenth title was added to Dinamo`s record! It was a triumphal march, with 34 matches and no defeat. Coaches: Halagian, Hizo and Cheran. As a Technique Director: Holland Rimus Israel. It was the last national title that Dinamo was going to conquer until 2000. Starting with that year (1992), the white-reds have lost consecutively the first division leader position. Nevertheless, we hopped for better in the future. As regards the international competitions
........

YEARS OF SEEKINGS, YEARS OF RECONSTRUCTION

The next years push us in UEFA Cup but, without any special results, in `94, `95, `96, Dinamo leaving the competition from the very beginning (first tour), and letting good but not great teams to win instead of: Cagliari, Trabzonspor, Levski Sofia. Among the newcomers, we remind Tene, Grozavu, Cr. Puscas, Constantinovici, Viorel Moldovan, Marian Ivan, Coporan, Radu Niculescu, the Serbian Ciula, Danciulescu, Chirita, Mohora. Near the youth internationals from Dinamo : Contra, Florentin Petre, Hildan. Alongside the famous goalkeeper Florin Prunea appear now Batranu, Cotora, Macavei, Talvan and Mihalcea, the team straitening with Preda, Calin, Ciobotariu, Neagoe, Dobre, Serban, Kirita-Daniel Florea and Daniel Rednic joining the team in 1997. The last few years coaches were Ioan Moldovan, Remus Vlad, Marian Bondrea, Cornel Talnar and Viorel Hizo. The final of the season 1997-1998 find the team coached by Cornel Dinu, also the president of CS Dinamo Bucharest.

In the above-mentioned period, the Romania National Team played in 1994 in USA, at the World Cup, having Dinamo players in the team: Prunea, Mihali, Cheregi, Selymesi, Dorinel Munteanu, Kadar, Gerstenmejer. Because of Dinamo team reconstruction, our players weren`t solicited by Coach Iordanescu to play for the Coupe de Monde `98, from France.

EVERYBODY`S TEAM

We have to mention, as an important issue of Dinamo history, the foundation, in 1994, of "Dinamo Bucharest Football Club Association" -according to the Law 21/1924, as a legal person, non patrimonial. Remaining in the organizing area, it has to be mentioned also the fact that, starting with the spring of 1999 - the moment of the election of Nicolae Badea as President, the Administration Board of Dinamo was going to increase the professional level of the Club, both managerial and communicational. Moreover, beginning with that moment, a coherent program of marketing, image and communication was implemented. In pursuance of the new policy, Dinamo has now to reach major objectives such as: modernizing and extending the stadium and the sporting park, installing the nocturnal system for the floodlit matches, modernizing the scoring board, developing programs concerning the playing grounds (grass, sport cinder).
Without doubt, a matter of present interest it was proved to be the reorganization of "Youth and Juniors Dinamo Football Center", with a view to transforming it into a real football school, with everything necessary for functioning in best conditions. The project approved by the Administration Board included also an out-door advertising program,
